Since the middle of 2007 ‘Russkaja’ - who started out as an insiders´ tip in Vienna - became a virtual cross-over cult music group. Their concerts are driven by a perfectly choreographed stage show fuelled by Russkaja´s 100% physical and musical commitment as well as by the enthusiasm of their constantly growing fan community.
In Russkaja´s home country Austria their gigs regularly draw thousands of people to venues and clubs. In the summer of 2007 the band - consisting of Russians, Hungarians and Austrians - was one of the highlights of the Viennese "Donauinselfest", the largest open air festival in Europe. Russkaja played in front of 30.000 fascinated fans and made it difficult for the following acts like the Bucovina Club Orkestar or Gogol Bordello to further increase the audience’s ecstasy.
Since the middle of 2007 Russkaja are also regular guests on TV - each Thursday they form the musical program of "Willkommen Österreich", a weekly show by the Austrian comedian duo Stermann & Grissemann. Their Debut EP "Dawai" was listed in the World Music Top Ten of iTunes Austria for almost a year.
Their fans had to wait quite a while until Russkaja served them with their first studio album, but it was crucial for the band to show that they do not only record high-speed sound for the ska-dance-floor but also offer more exalted listening pleasures. Their entertaining arrangements prove that they are real experts who can handle tricky brass arrangements as well as cool guitar-riffs, and at the same time know how to use contemporary electronics or rarely heard effects. Now the debut album “Kasatchok Superstar“ is be ready to shake things up and to take the World, Balkan-Ska and alternative scenes in a blast.
