It’s no trade secret to call Mark Murphy one of the best and hippest Jazz singers alive today. The influence of this icon -- nominated for six Grammy awards -- has spread far beyond the sphere Jazz since he hit the scene in the early 50s.
His work with greats like Clark Terry, Miles Davis, Charlie Parker, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter but also U.F.O., 4hero and the 5 Corners Quintet speak volumes about his quality as well as his openness.
So it is a great pleasure for Darcosan, Alexdrum and DJ Shalom alias Three Minutes and the whole Family of Vienna dubbing scientists to count themselves in these ranks – and also to illuminate a new facet of the talent of the King of all crooners.
Anyone who listens with attention to the work of the A&R’s of the Scientists, Jürgen Drimal, is sure to detect a certain affinity to Jazz, but for this project every register has been rung: thanks to a score of remixes the label’s trademark sound is transformed in the here and now, something that should surprise and shake up fans of the Vienna Sounds.
With this recording of Secrets, the Vienna Scientists have lit the fuse of the rockets of the next level (and it isn’t the last) and soar directly into a futuristic new sound without losing contact to earth station.
