the label about this release:
Listening to tunes and album ideas in the Rubberfunk record library during a summer afternoon tea & biscuits break, led to one of those ‘wouldn’t it be great if…’ type conversations; ‘wouldn’t it be great if we could get Roachford on vocals’. A few quick emails later and ‘Trouble Woman’ was born.

Andrew Roachford has been on the UK music scene for over two decades - his work from the 80’s and 90’s made him Columbia's biggest selling UK act for ten years with a seven album recording deal.
Digging the early demos sent through from Rubberfunk HQ, and in between writing for Joe Cocker’s new album project, Andrew cooked up the beautifully simple melody and catchy hook of ‘Trouble Woman’.

Woven between the ‘Love To Love You’ style bass groove and the southern fried guitar picking, horns come courtesy of a transatlantic hook-up; Todd Simon, hornsman for The Breakestra, Connie Price & The Keystones and Mayer Hawthorne, amongst others, drops the perfect brass accompaniment to the Rubberfunk sound.

With the album version in the can, tea break discussions this time centred around ‘dream remixers’. Top of Rubberfunk’s list was legendary cut n paste pioneer Steinski.

Steve ‘Steinski’ Stein achieved notoriety in the early 1980’s, alongside Doug ‘Double Dee’ DiFranco, for a series of underground hip-hop sample-based collages known as ‘The Lessons’. Whilst they never had a hit record, they became highly influential for subsequent artists, with the likes of Coldcut, DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist and The Avalanches all citing the duo as favourites.
