For this vinyl only release Dope Noir has selected three tracks from the upcoming album "Superflu" : The musical journey begins in the South of France at the beginning of the 1970ies and finds its sudden end in New Yorks Central Park, where Valerie can be found dozing off under a cherry tree, presumably after having tried out some mind altering substances.
The title song "Superflu" reminds of the days when Jane Birkin was still practicing her french. It is set in an easy going way of life and reflects upon "Superflu" (Überfluß): Valerie has it all.... she has got the looks, she lives a luxurious life in Saint Privat, she has even become a little star, but at the same time her front is begining to crumble.
So when you hear that song your first impression will be something like: ok, just another easy going" sing-along-lalala-song". And then.... wait a minute. There is a second layer of weird lyrics "l´Amérique croule sous les plastique et le monde diplomatique frôle le coma éthylique" What the hell is going on with these people?
Following this route Saint Privat also made a trippy version of the all time classic hippy anthem "Somebody to Love" (originally perfomed by Jefferson Airplane). Slower and smoother than the original song, Saint Privat gave it their unique trademark sound. What else is there to say, except yes, you better find somebody to love.
The last piece "Un, Deux, Trois" is a tribute to H. Bognermayer (former mebmer of the psychedelic formation Ella Craig). Some of you might recognise the main theme of this track.
