After a long break WALDECK is back with his new longplayer "Ballroom Stories". Our musical journey begins in the Americas at the beginning of the 1920ies. Tango meets Swing. Delicous cocktails and a live that seems even richer than the thick smoke of Cuban Cigars. The opener "Make my Day" reminds of the days when Al Capone was making a fortune by selling booze. Singer Joy Malcolm gives us an impressive performance of how she would have sounded, if she were born 60 years earlier. If, this track sounds familier to you, it may be, because Mercedes Benz chose it, for its latest TV-campaign featuring the Formula 1 world champion Mr. Alonso. All there is to say: "Turn the radio on, the neighbourŽs gone!" Another highlight "Addicted" sneaks in with an intriguing bass line and a healthy dose of tango-feeling. Zeebee is the new voice on this masterpiece.
Waldeck CDs are still very high on my favourites list.
Balance of the force and night garden have been playing over and over for their dramatic and dubby sounds and also beautiful lyrics and interpretation.
This new CD is maybe from Waldeck but I guess it should be under a different name since it is completely different from his previous works and the singer is so like any lounge compilation's.
Gosh, I've been waiting for ever. I'm so disappointed. And I feel really sorry for writing this. When is a new Waldeck CD going to be made ?
Let's get things straight: I respect that every one of us is entitled to his/her own opinion, but please don't be put off by the previous review 'cause this album is the absolute business. Lovely, subtle and classy melodies, supported by clubby dubby sounds. You will really miss out if you don't pick it up. Hell, check out the samples I say!
It is true to say this album differs from other Waldeck offerings like 'The Night Garden' etc., but I don't think it is up to us to decide what is, and what is not, 'Waldeck'. If you liked his Saint Privat collaborations even a little, you'll love this. Respect.
Wow, critics can be harsh when you don't give them what they expect. But isn't that what makes art wonderful, it's ability to mutate and change? Hopefully, we can grow and expand our own ears and minds and not condition ourselves, but challenge ourselves. I have always been a fan of musicians who combine classic melodies and styles with modern instrumentation and innovation. Waldeck certainly does this original and reinvented songs which will tantalize you. Remember, a critic is a critic, a flawed individual like myself who has an opinion. Listen for yourself, this cd is well worth the price.
A record has to be really fascinating, that i order it on vinyl........
its orderd.......
In my mind thats still wadeck, only in a different mood, IŽm lovin it :)
Sorry 4 my english
I really regret what I've written but I cannot delete it. Anyway, what has been written is there to stay. I've played again the tracks on SoulSeduction and I still don't really enjoy them. But Waldeck has evolved to a new style and it is entirely up to him to decide a new direction for his music. So saying "It's no Waldeck" was not what I should have written. OK. I'll play the tracks again. Maybe with time...
i 've heard a long time before the ep and first sample of this album so i knew what i had to wait for.But personally i prefer this album much better than the older ones
