Astro Can Caravan was founded in the heartlands of Eastern Finland in summer 2001, and from the very beginning the direction was towards the outer space.
During the time the band has gone trough many changes, but in general the starry host revolves have always been around Otto Eskelinen, Tomi Kosonen and Pharaoh Pirttikangas. In the latest form of Astro Can Caravan’s evolution, these three central stars are joined by other musicians from the Hall of Fame of new Finnish jazz and rock:, Rasmus Pailos, Pentti Dassum, Tuomo Kuure, Tuomas Eriksson, Erno Haukkala, Tapani Varis, Joakim Berghäll and Pauli Lyytinen.
Trying to define Astro Can Caravan's music precisely is not easy. The strong presence of wind instruments makes one to think about something jazzy, but there is also a large amount of different influences from ancient Ethiopia to Finnish nature and its primitive sound.
