Remember Samantha Fox and Sabrina, those sleazy mistresses of 80s dance/pop and icons of every mullet man´s wet dream? Then meet their innocent daughter, Swedish disco princess Sally Shapiro in charge of their musical heritage who will soon release her debut album "Disco Romance". Above all it´s inspired by Italian 80s disco and the Twin Peaks series.
Sally has been no no-name in disco communities ever since "I'll Be By Your Side", which was rated 4.5 out of 5 by the highly acclaimed U.S. Pitchforkmedia and ended up #27 in the their top 100 of 2006 tracks list. Pitchforkmedia also reviewed two other tracks of the upcoming album with 4.5 out of 5 stars though they were never even released as singles. Vice Magazine thinks the album cover is among the worst they´ve seen yet the music is an "utterly perfect slice of italo synth-pop". It was also among the best new singles of the last 3 months by New York´s Village Voice, hailing it as the new Belle & Sebastian. Der Spiegel compared her with Annie and Robyn - other examples of Scandinavian quality pop.
But Sally Shapiro is not your typical pop star. Sally (whose real name is a secret) is so shy that she refuses to record a music video or performing her songs live, let alone being photographed by someone she doesn't know. And even her own producer Johan Agebjörn and the executive producer Wolfram "marfloW" Eckert never ever heard her singing live.
"Yes, I haven't heard her sing one single song from the album live. I was outdoors mowing the lawn when we recorded the vocals", Johan says. The Swedish disco-princess Sally Shapiro with her debut album -Disco Romance- She became well-known in disco communities with "I'll be by your side", which was an 'utterly perfect slice of Italo synth-pop'. The deal is that we have an album full of Italo Disco inspired Pop.
Please note "I'll be by your side (rude 66 808 remix)" is not included on the vinyl version of this album!
