the label about this release:
Mr Day returns with a stunning new original song from his forthcoming album, Tears of Joy. With a melody so strong that this could be a pop song, it's still pretty darn soulful, raw and rough, with heavy guitars and beautiful Hammond organ. The track actually sounds like the Who meets Smokey Robinson or the Isley Brothers. After two previous releases on Favorite Recordings, Soul on Wax and Get Your Point Over, Mr Day and his band prove just how eclectic they are, crossing over into disco, classic 60's Motown, and funkier, deeper sounds, while maintaining their own unique vibe, a kind of vital soul. Tears Of Joy was originally written by Mr Day when he started out with the Dynamics alongside Patchworks. The song then became part of the Dynamics repertoire when they had their first gigs. The Dynamics created not just a remix but their very own version of the song, featured on the flipside of this release. Mr Day is lead vocal here as well yet delivers in a totally different way, starting off with a smooth, sweet and mellow rocksteady shuffle, and gradually moving towards a pumping reggae rock sound when Steve Levi takes it to the toast DJ style of U Roy or Al Capone. Both sides are the result of Patchworks’ mastery of production - he imprints his magic touch on the tracks, eternally eclectic and genuine whether it be soul, disco, jazz, or reggae…
