How does ordering tracks work at soulseduction.com?

here at soulseduction.com, we are using the good ol' shopping cart system for placing orders, even though we call our shopping cart digi bag.
you know this from many other e-commerce websites: adding products to a shopping cart, going through some checkout steps incl. choosing a billing address and credit card, finally submitting orders incl. payment.

although more complicated than so called click-and-buy mechanisms automatically downloading tracks by just one click, we believe that when it's about the money there is no need for any hassle. better review twice and get the tracks you really want than pay for wrong tracks by too easy order/download systems.

so, let's have a step-by-step walk-through at how to shop at soulseduction.com:

1. adding tracks to your digi bag:
whenever you find a track that you would like to buy, press on one of its prices, the one that reflects the quality you would like to buy. Usually, we offer tracks in 2 qualities, mp3-320 cbr and wave. some tracks we also offer at mp3-192 cbr.

this track will be added to your digi bag, that's how we call our shopping cart. now, you can see a 'bagged' instead of the price indicating that it has been added to your digi bag.

if you don't see any price next to the track, then we must not sell this track individually but only as part of the full release. please note that this is a decision by the labels, not ours.

if the prices are shown in grey, this means that this track and the release is not out yet. check for the sentence 'downloads will be available on xx/xx/xxxx' to see when you can buy this track.

when happy adding tracks, click on 'proceed to digital checkout' on the bottom of the tracklist, which redirects you to your digibag page.

2. your digi bag:
In your digibag, you can relisten to the chosen tracks, swap qualities, and delete tracks that you would like not to buy.
note: all tracks listed in your digi bag will be taken to checkout.

happy with your selection? press 'proceed to checkout'

3. checkout steps:
During checkout, you might have to enter your billing address and credit card if not yet given before.
finally, you will see a final review page giving you the chance to check if everything is fine.
note: if you do not have enough funds on your soul account, it will show on the very top in orange bold letters. we will ask you to refill your account as soon as you click 'submit order'

so far, no order has been placed, no money has been transferred.

When happy with billing address and sound selection, click 'submit order'.


4. submitting order - paying your order:
If you do not have enough funds, we will now ask you to transfer the missing amount of money onto your soul account using your credit card (minimum: 9EUR). for this step, you will need your CVC Code, so have your card at hand.

If money transfer fails (credit card company declines this money transfer for any reason), your order submission will fail as well. we will redirect you to a order failure page that shows you what has been the reason for this failure.

If you already have enough funds or your money transfer succeds and you now do have enough money on your soul account, your order is placed, and when placed successfully, we will redirect you to an order confirmation page. At the bottom of this confirmation page, you see a 'download now' button. click on it to start downloading your music.

digital qualities sold
Before I will buy music at your store, I would like to know in which qualities you are selling music.

we offer all releases in our store in mp3 quality at a compression level of 320kbps CBR*. All MP3 files have so called id3-tags included giving you the most important information about the track and an embedded cover artwork.

most tracks we also offer as wave files, that's CD quality. wave files are uncompressed RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format) at 44.1kHz, 1411 16bit stereo.
wave files do not carry any tagging information like track name or track artist. this behaviour is by design as the RIFF standard for wave files does not know any information tags.

note: wave files do not play on ipods and most mp3 players. however, you buy the full quality, and if you are experienced, you can convert them to mp3 files yourself at home.

in some cases, we also offer MP3-192 files, these files are compressed at 192kbps CBR. while musical experience with such compressed files is fair enough for listening purpose at home and at your mp3 player, they might be too flat for DJs.


We do NOT offer FLAC or OGG files.
Sometimes, people ask us why we do not offer flac instead of wave files.
we want to keep the digital experience as easy as possible for you, so we have decided not to offer these two formats, as flac compression codecs are still not common, most computers do not have these codecs preinstalled, and many people do not know how to use these files. same with ogg compression, most mp3 players do not understand ogg formats and cannot play the music.

* CBR ... constant bit rate. the whole track is encoded at the given bitrate (320 or 192) even though some parts of a track (e.g. seconds of silence, ...) could be compressed in lower bit rates.

is buying tracks at soulseduction.com legal?

of course it is!

We have direct retail contracts with digital distribution companies and record labels who send us their music that we offer for sale to you.

Whenever we sell a track via our website, we will pay a predefined share to the distribution company or the record label that has sent us the track, and another share to the Austrian collecting society called Austromechana (AUME).

So, when you buy music at soulseduction.com, you can be sure that the money will get to the label and the musicians.

cannot start checkout
I have put some tracks into my digi bag and would like to start checkout. I press 'proceed to checkout' but instead of buying I return to the digi bag. Please help!

with some browser versions, our checkout process regrettably does not work properly.
In fact, we are trying hard to find a solution for this nasty error, but we still have not found the reason for it.

we have experienced this error occuring sometimes with certain older versions of Mozilla Firefox (v. 3.07 - 3.09), and very seldom with some versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
moreover, a possible reason for this behaviour might be a side effect when having certain toolbars installed for your browser (e.g. googlebox, IE searchbox, ...)

some tipps for a workaround:

1. please try again using another web browser. in most cases, when using a different browser not having any toolboxes installed your checkout will work.

2. Mozilla Firefox: please check in your browser options if you have enabled 'third parties cookies'. If not, enable them.

3. MS Internet Explorer: in your browser options, try grading down security options to 'middle'. However, don't forget to set this option back to the original level after successfully purchasing tracks in our store to keep your browser safe from harmful code that could enter your PC at other, malicious websites.

If it still does not work, please proceed as follows:

1. refill enough funds onto your soul account via menu 'mysoul -> refill soul account'
2. contact us at support (at) soulseduction.com and ask us to finalize your order. we will then do the checkout on your behalf, you will receive an email with your order confirmation and download link for your purchased tracks.
please note: we cannot refill your soul account on your behalf. so, please make sure that your soul account holds a sufficient amount of money for us to finalize your order.

checkout redirects to digibag
I have put some tracks into my digi bag and then tried to buy them. during my checkout steps, in a second window I was listening to some tracks or browsing other releases. However, my checkout then stopped and redirected back to my digi bag. What's wrong?

Our checkout steps need exclusivity with regards to your browsing activity at our site.
During checkout, we have to check certain parameters. When you browse in a second window, these parameters are deleted and your checkout will not proceed but redirects back to your digi bag.
This behaviour is by design.

So, when entering your checkout, please make sure to solely concentrate on the checkout without browsing for additional music in our store in a second browser window or tab.

I would like to buy a certain track, but there are no prices shown. I cannot put it in my digi bag. please help!

If there are no prices shown next to particular track, then we must not sell it individually but only as part of the full bundle.

please note: this is not a rip off idea by us, this is a decision by the label. In most cases, those tracks are bonus tracks, or with many compilations it's a legal thing as labels did not get the license to sell the digital tracks individually but only as part of the full bundle.

problems with credit card payments
I cannot order at your site. All attempts to pay with my credit card fail, although I do not have any problems at website xxx. Why?

We are very closely connected to all credit card companies worldwide via our cooperation with the payment provider called QENTA.

Thus, all account refills and payments with credit card will be checked in REALTIME by your credit card company.
Those realtime checks are very thorough, so be sure you have enough credit on your credit card account.

If your account refill or order fails, we pass on the error message that the credit card company tells us to you. Those messages may be quite vague, so best practise will be to contact your credit card company.

possible reasons that we have experienced:

- international purchases via internet are blocked (specially with cards in spain AND france). please use paypal or bank transfer instead!
- too many failing attempts, card is locked with regards to internet purchases
- new card comes locked for all internet purchases and has to be unlocked first by the credit card owner.
- card is so-called pre-enrolled for 'mastercard secure' (MASTER) or 'verified by visa' (VISA). please contact your bank or credit card issuer to enroll your card in this secure payment program.
- communications errors. very seldom, internet connections to your bank do not work. error message will then state: 'Regrettably, this transaction cannot be processed at the moment. Please try again later.' in this case, please retry some minutes later, and if it still does not work after this short period of time, please wait another 5-10 hours.

so, why does my card then work in other web stores, hmmm?
well, most probably because other stores do not check credit cards as thoroughly as we do but charge cards AFTER a purchase at the risk of accepting such a failing payment at their financial risk.

minimum refill 9€?
Why do I have to refill my soul account with at least 9,00 EURO? I just want to buy this one track paying 1,09 EURO for it and never come again!

We do not charge any money transfer costs to you. All track prices are at the minimum, and we will not add any hidden costs.

However, micropayment is very expensive, credit card companies charges are way higher with small amounts as there are minimum fixed fees plus percentage fees for every transaction. and paypal is even more expensive.

if we allowed payments of smallest amounts and thus had to charge the fees to you, this would lead to mp3-192 track prices higher than 1,60 instead of 1,09 which were definitely not a nice price at all. In this case you would for sure look for a better offer elsewhere.

We at soulseduction.com have a strict 'less is more' attitude to life. So, we cover all these transfer costs, and in order to keep them low for us, we ask you to transfer 9EUR minimum, which can be over time used for up to 8-9 single track orders (in comparison to only 4 single track orders if we offered them incl. fees).

we firmly believe that there are tons of tracks on our site that you will love once you discover them. and the 9EUR minimum will stay on your soul account waiting for your additional purchases.

on the other hand: if you really just want to buy this track but don't like the other music which we offer at all, you might want to think twice whether our website is the right place for you.

where are my download files
I just purchased some tracks at soulseduction.com and started to download from your site. I refreshed the page during this download, but now the download page is empty, no downloads any more. where are the tracks?

All your downloads are staying in your personal download area. you can find it via menu 'mysoul/download area' on the top or via this link: download area
your purchased downloads will stay there for three days, so there is plenty of time to fetch all music files.

if for any reason a web page becomes outdated and does not reappear after a refresh, you can always find your download files in your download area.

I purchased some tracks but did not start downloading directly after purchasing but kept browsing for some more tracks. Now I can't find the downloads any more.

note: your personal download area also acts as your download history stating all tracks that you have purchased at soulseduction.com including date of purchase and invoices.

problems downloading / playing mp3s
there are some distinctive situations that can lead to troubles with downloaded music files. Let's try to identify all possible reasons for why a file will not play:

1. zip-file error
after downloading your zip file, it does not open correctly. instead, you get an error message (file corrupt) or a CRC-Checksum error appears.

all tracks that you order at soulseduction.com are sent to you in zip files. the reason for this is as follows: when packaged in zip files, you know that ALL data of a track will be delivered to your computer, not a single bit gets lost during file transmission. all downloaded zip files from our site come WITHOUT password.

if a zip file does not arrive 100% at your site, the zip file will not open but claims to be corrupt. in such cases, just redownload the zip file.
note: one missing byte of a zip file leads to a corrupted zip, and as internet connections sometimes suffer from slowliness it may happen that a zipfile does not arrive completely.

however, if you tried several times and still the zip-file does not open, please contact us at support (at) soulseduction.com. we will then find another solution together on how to get the music to your PC.

2. Cannot play mp3 file
you successfully unpacked the zip file and now click on a mp3 file to start the music. But, it does not play.

In very rare cases, mp3 files don't play with windows media player, but they successfully play on VLC or Apple iTunes.

My problem is not listed here

wav files without info
I bought some wav-tracks from soulseduction.com and added them to my iTunes application. Now, none of the tracks have any information about the track name or the track artist. Help!

Wave files do not carry any additional information about the artist or the track name as we all know it from MP3 files.

the reason is very easy: standard RIFF wave files as we sell them through our store are not designed to carry such information.

There is an extension for WAVE files called 'Broadcast Wave Format' (BWF), which is capable of carrying additional information, but 1. these info in most cases will not be displayed in regular mp3-players and 2. such BWF files are a subset of WAVE files designed for 48kHz music files, not for 44.1kHz files as we are selling.


I understand, but why can I manually add information via iTunes for those wave files?
In fact, in iTunes you are not adding this information directly to the track but just into iTunes' management database which holds the information. the file itself stays untouched.
so, if you delete the file from your iTunes database and reimport it, the file information tags will be empty again.

That's pretty bad news. So, how can I add this information via iTunes?
only manually.
1. Add the information to the wave file
2. convert the wave file to either mp3 or apple m4a.
tip: with apple m4a, you can also choose the compression option 'lossless' which will result in a compressed file without losing any sound information.

how does ordering with advance payments work?

That's how it works:
1) you register on soulseduction.com
2) you transfer money on our account (see bank data in the "weŽre here" section)
3) the amount that arrived here (use IBAN and BIC if possible) will be credited to your soulaccount
4) now you can place orders until the total value of your orders has reached the credit amount on your soulaccount.

We will only credit you the amount we actually receive. All bank transfer fees etc... will be at your expense. Should you send foreign currency, it will be automatically converted into Euro and again, we will only credit the amount we actually are credited ourselves. You may send cheques, but bank fees are sometimes very high and handling takes very long: we will only credit you the actual amount credited on our account.

When using PAYPAL please be aware that transfer charges unfortunately won't show during the payment process on your side. Especially when sending very small amounts via PAYPAL such surcharges are rather high, the higher the amount, the lower the charges compared to the total amount sent. In order to make things as simple as possible we will always credit your soul account with your original transfer amount less EUR 0,35. the rest of paypal's charges will be covered by us. so please make sure to add EUR 0,35 to your total order amount...and please be aware that PAYPAL are deducting these charges, not us.

When do you charge VAT?

In most cases, when ordering within the EU, soulseduction will charge 20% VAT (Austrian rate). For orders to some EU countries, soulseduction will charge the local VAT rate.
For all orders outside the EU, there will not be any VAT charged.

Please note: As the items purchased as Digital Download only contain a license for personal use for an individual person, EU-located companies are not entitled to VAT exempt.

buying cds and vinyls
I used to buy CDs and vinyl here. now, I cannot find the button to buy them any more. Were can I find the CDs/vinyls?

In February 2008, we stopped selling CDs and vinyls, instead we started concentrating on digital sales selling MP3 and WAVE files.

To many of you and us, that's a new situation as for real music afficionados it's only vinyl that counts.

However, music industry is changing, and many records labels don't even produce vinyls any longer. Many well known music distribution companies have gone bankrupt, and it has become hard to even get hold of a CD nowadays.

We decided to step forward and concentrate on the digital business model. we hope that you will do one day as well, maybe today?

Why do prices sometimes change?

All track prices are predefined. However, after some period of time, track prices may fall as they become 'older'. (however, it's a bit cheesy to call music 'old'. The impact of good music will never decline)

The newest tracks are the most expensive, the older ones become 'cheaper'.

invoices in pdf format
When I try to open an invoice, I get an error message that states: "There was an error opening this document. The viewer cannot decrypt the document". Is there something wrong with this particular file?

This error message is displayed when you use an older version of Acrobat Reader to open a document that has been encoded with the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. All of our invoices are encoded with the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. Some of the older versions of Acrobat Reader are not compatible with the new features in the latest version of Adobe Acrobat. You must download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0 or higher to open soul seduction invoices. You can download a free version Adobe Acrobat Reader directly from Adobe.
