It makes winter feel like summer
Dr Richard and Madrid de los Austrias have teamed up to create this great album. The tracks have a disco feel to them, good for the dance floor. Great quality!

Dorfmeister/Madrid de los Aust - Grand Slam
The sun is shining, summer is here and it's time for the tennis season to start. As a rule all
G-Stone tournaments are played on grass and the Austrian Open is no exception. The first match of the day is Dorfmeister Vs Madrid De Los Austrias and what an exciting match it promises to be.

The first rally shows the different styles of the players involved, the sensual latin stylings of MDLA's Pogo and Heinz providing the perfect backhand to counter the sultry funk and deep dub that makes every beat Richard Dorfmeister serves an ace.

The album "Grand Slam" is suitably titled for the summer Season and pulls together the key productions and remixes of Sunshine Recordings Madrid de Los Austrias and G-Stone's Richard Dorfmeister who have in recent years combined to form a crack production team. Sunshine Recordings label man Heinz Tronigger and multi-instrumentalist Pogo form the core of Madrid De Los Austrias and together with their friend and production partner Richard Dorfmeister they have been working on their own productions as well as providing hot remixes for the likes of Zero 7, Koop, Groove Armada and Pressure Drop. 2004 saw the pairing release Valdemossa, a tightly programmed summer jam that moved the Dorfmeister Vs MDLA doubles team up to the top of the world rankings.

From their own productions on the album, boogie no more tightens up a disco classic and introduces it to a new audience while make dis real and schnitz bring out the party sensibilities of the players involved. On the moon maybe shows another style for the band mixing jazz chords with a bass heavy electronic groove for a sublime disco moment. From the remixes the Dorfmeister Vs MDLA mix of back 2 back is an instant classic with its spoken word commentary on cultural diversity. The mix of Groove Armada's my friend is probably the best known of the remixes bringing dub and funk elements to GA's honeyed vocal while the mix of Willie Bobo's spanish grease allows MDLA's latin stylings to flourish in a sunshine groove.

With the match nearly over we caught up with the players during the end change for a few quick words - "The international pressure was huge from the very beginning" says Pogo with a big smile - and asks for his towel. "Working on those remixes, we discovered a lot of common ground on the court. We realized fast that we responded quickly to every strategy, yet we had to come up with our own game plan." Taking a sip of the ice cold isotonic drink from the cooler, Pogo rises from the deck chair to walk back onto the court.

Advantage Dorfmeister - Serving for the game, a relaxed Dorfmeister sends another sizzling ace down the line before turning to offer some words of wisdom to the gathered members of the sporting press. "This looks like it's going to be our game. I know my playing partners too well to lose. The Prize Money is coming to Vienna again."

rough cuts - parov stelar (CD)
release date: 10/2004
- available to download
stellar cuts
All too often you will have heard it said of supposedly classic recordings: that they are distinguished by their ability to continue to captivate and fascinate; how one will discover new aspects, minute details, with every listen.

Far too often, they are not, and one will not.

But once in a while it is a different story, and this is actually the case with 'Rough Cuts': it never ceases to amaze. You do not listen to it, rather it captures you ears.

'Seven and Storm' runs it close, and is arguably more coherent, but the individual brilliance of the tracks on offer here is unsurpassed.

Right down to the title and artwork, 'Rough Cuts' is tasteful, thoughtful, and understated. Scarily close to that elusive thing called perfection.

Noir indeed!
This album is, for me, a lovely introduction to Etage Noir and Parov Stelar. It sounds great, fresh... and noir. Sometimes the music is a bit fractured but Rough Cuts is a 5 star album nonetheless.

"Rough Cuts" - Parov Stelars first full album and most precious work so far is an absolute must for friends of smoked beats, jazz and house! After two years of hard labour and a lot of finishing touches in late-night-turning-early-morning sessions, the head of Etage Noir Recordings presents an album which deliciously floats between Old school Jazz and modern Hip Hop Break. Different from Parovs preceding Maxis on Vinyl this long player on CD seems to be most appropriate for the dimmed light easy listening area rather than the club. Deep samples and compositions groove regardless of the actual fashion and trends and lift this album into a timeless piece of art, not worrying about any durability date. In 10 songs "Rough cuts" tells us a story drawing new facings again and again, properly taking the listener on a pleasant journey. A journey that seems to start in the Jazz beginnings of the 30's and ends a long time after the computer revolution...

Perfektes Album

Ein perfektes Album, das durch sein wunderbares Retro-Flair überzeugt, gepaart mit housigen Klängen, perfekten Bläser-Sequenzen, angenehmen Beats, sowie souligen Vocals;

klein allstars 1 - various (CD)
release date: 8/2004
- available to download
Since the foundation of the label in 1996 it has always been the primary goal, to be open-minded and focussed at the same time. Klein always had the intent, to showcase the wide variety of a vital musicscene, whose members experiment with styles as well as create some new ones, while at it. It wasn't long until first success with critics and audiences came with the vienna-based Breakbeat/Dub-Collective SOFA SURFERS. Soon after followed the Electronica/Soul/House-Outfit MIKA, the Big Beat/Breakbeat-Soulster of MUM, Swiss Multitalent SEELENLUFT, Breakbeat/Dub/Ragga-Grandmaster Kevin Martin aka THE BUG and the solo-excursions in SoulDub of Sofa Surfer I-WOLF. And here is "Klein All Stars Vol.1": It's a place for rare, vinyl-only or not yet released tracks from the ever growing Klein Records artist roster. A showcase, planned for yearly release-dates, which should not only showcase the development of the label itself but also tendencies and new movements in contemporary music. Take-Away-Pop-Art, if you like. And please have a close look at the cover, Mr. Seelenluft aka Beat Solér put his musicmachines aside and picked up brush, paint and canvas for this extraordinary design.
