house of trax vol 5 - various (EP)
release date: 13/8/2010
- available to download
The fifth release contains more rare tracks from the Trax catalogue. The a-side features two mixes of the little known Gwendolyn track, which originally came out on Precision Records (named after Larry Sherman’s pressing plant) in 1984. This early vocal (house) gem was produced by Vince Lawrence and Jessie Saunders. It comes in two versions. A more straight forward original and a more dubbed out version by Farley Jackmaster Funk. A real treat. Side B features another early 80s Chicago track, again by Vince Lawrence and Jessie Saunders aka Z-Factor featuring Screaming Rachel. Classic Chicago house tracks.

late discovery - georg levin (EP)
release date: 13/8/2010
- available to download
To celebrate Georg’s longplayer release "Everything Must Change" BBE brings you another great single with remixes of "Late Discovery". Late Discovery is the third single and closer of the album "Everything Must Change" that has already become a favourite among Georg Levin fans. It's a sensual Bonnie and Clyde story within a musical structure that is typical for many of Georg's songs: a hybrid between a dance tune and a ballad, both danceable and something for the heart and soul. The single comes along with remixes by US superproducer Karizma, Compost Record's Shahrokh Dini and Georg himself plus two extra mixes of Georg's hit single "The Better Life" by Muzikman.

hush (iggy, iggy) / linyora ep - tim turbo (EP)
release date: 1/10/2010
- available to download soon
Big’N’Hairy is proud to present the debut EP by Germany’s new blood in eclectic club sounds, Tim Turbo. The „Hush (Iggy, Iggy)/Linyora EP“ is brimful with tropical bass flavours, as well as state of the art house rhythms featuring a all new multinational dancefloor phenominon on the vocals consisting of Gnucci Banana and her husband Spoek Mathambo. He is part of a new breed of African artists and hitting the world hard with his take on Afro-futurism. She is Yugoslavian and has been blowing minds with her sassy raps as well as her wild stage antics. They bang out lyrics in a mish mash of English, some Swedish and South African slang and are known for their astonishing live shows. "Hush (Iggy, Iggy)“ is a B-more beat driven, synth peppered announcement to all haters who just can not stop talking behind our backs. For those who don’t know, Iggy is a South African slang word for all those abject wafflers and jealous people. The song yells right in the face of all Iggys: „Get out my way!“ The second original tune, „Linyora“ is defined by a dreamy, almost techy theme and based on an all-out kickdrum, propulsive percussions and some heavy armed Kuduro breakdowns. Spoek plays the role of a Soweto area don, who wants to win the heart of the most beautiful girl in the neighborhood – thats Gnucci’s role. But she plays hard-to-get and he tries nearly everything to attract her. Guess what happens? The cherry on this transnational bass cake is a shitload of dancefloor blasting remixes. Douster jumped in his time machine and came back with a 90s Dancehall sweeper. Hamburg’s So Shifty tucked „Hush (Iggy, Iggy)“ in a all new sweat suit after their fancy, while Beware and Motorpitch came up with a mesmerizing rhythm on top of a grooving how-low-can-you-go bassline. Upcoming cool cats Cocotaxi and tropical bass outfit Hat+Hoodie know how to satisfy with minimal beatframes that create maximum swagger and last but not least, Tipanic touches down with a half Trance, half amazing hybrid plus a dash of Dancehall.

tripper + springer - efterklang (CD)
release date: 23/8/2010 * reissue *
- available to download
“We recorded our debut EP, Springer, in the winter of 2003. Our ambition was to be able to present some material to get us gigs at local venues in Copenhagen, but we came to like the recordings so much we decided to self-release them as an EP. We made 500 covers by hand, using white fake fur and a sewing machine, and sold them to friends and through a couple of Danish record stores.

“We set up our label at the same time, almost by accident. We felt we needed to put a label name on the disc and for reasons we can’t recall, we pretended that it was released by a label called Rumraket.

“We started to write songs for a full-length album and recording began in December 2003. By May 2004, Tripper was almost finished and we planned to release it on Rumraket, this time intending to produce a thousand handmade copies. Well into the production of this edition we were approached by Tony Morley at The Leaf Label (who had previously rejected the copy of Springer we had sent him!). Before we knew it we were part of a real record label, and Tripper was released internationally in October 2004 (to be followed by a reissue of Springer in April 2005).

“Under Giant Trees and Parades were both originally released in 2007. They are closely related, but also quite distinct. We spent almost two years in the studio creating Parades, a long and complex process as all the songs were written while we were recording. The songs became intricate puzzles where we would lay down a new fragment of melody, rhythm or harmony every day.

“We had written and performed the five songs that became Under Giant Trees during the Tripper tour of 2005, and had recorded the basic tracks on returning to Copenhagen that December. During August 2006 we got totally stuck with the Parades recordings, and to give ourselves some breathing space we decided to complete the Under Giant Trees EP instead - a very constructive sidestep. We picked up where we left off and finished the string parts and vocals, giving the songs their structure. The EP was released on limited edition CD and vinyl in April 2007 and sold out almost immediately.

“We returned to the sessions for Parades with fresh perspective and completed the recordings in April. Mads teamed up with Darren Allison and spent a month mixing the album, a gargantuan task in itself. The album was finally released in October 2007, and we began touring again after a two year hiatus. Parades was a complicated album to make and it was only when we started playing the songs live that we began to have a unified understanding of it. But the album is still a mystery for us, and an album we are very proud of.”

risky business ep - murray richardson (EP)
release date: 23/8/2010
- available to download
Murray Richardson takes time out from touring his long running Rebel Waltz nights across the globe to release his new EP on the super-hot Baker Street Recordings. Two original tracks ‘Risky Business’ and ‘Generations’ are deep, driving, tracky cuts, and the latter comes backed by a remix from current Baker Street star Martijn.
Starting his production career in 1999 with 20:20 Vision, Murray Richardson has gone on to release music with Low Pressings, Creative Music, Magnitude, Kickin Records, Nordic Trax and Sensei Recordings. His emphasis has always been on quality over quantity and building up relationships with the most respected labels out there, as evidenced here again with Baker Street. Along with his continual touring it’s a formula which has in turn made Murray one of the most respected figures in deep and tech house circles.

Martijn remixes ‘Generations’ hot on the tail of his second release for Baker Street, ‘Lose It EP’, produced with Steve SoulBasics. It also follows his ‘Circus Dubs EP’ for the label in December 2009. Based in Newcastle in the North East of England, Martijn is fast becoming a name to keep a close eye on with previous releases appearing on Kinky Vinyl, Subway Soul and Just Deep Music and remix work for Jay Tripwire & Boddhi Satva, Sebastian Davidson and Deep 88. His own label Deep Edition Recordings will launch soon.

Leeds-based Baker Street Recordings were described recently by iDJ’s Russell Deeks as being “one of the UKs top deep house imprints”, thanks to a consistent string of quality EPs featuring music by the likes of Jay Tripwire, Moodymanc, Sei A, Justin Harris and Demarkus Lewis, alongside relative newcomers Matt Prehn, Michelle Owen, Tom Davis and label boss Paul Hardy.

suddenly everything - max sedgley (CD)
release date: 30/8/2010
- available to download
Max Sedgley’s name is eponymous with his worldwide hit “Happy”. A tune so gargantuan it was used as the theme tune for BBC’s coverage of the last world cup and which has helped sell the idea of good times to a generation of clued-up clubbers and big name brands most notably Bacardi who used the track for a worldwide campaign.

On the back of that single Max recorded an album for Rob Da Bank’s Sunday Best label and toured the world with his band The Shoots – living the high life as a festival bill topper.

After Uni - a slight reformed Max was much in demand for his skills on the skins and played drums in a wide variety of bands including King Kooba, Organic Audio and a stint as drummer for Roni Size’s Breakbeat Era project.

During this time Max recorded “Happy” which was about as different to everything else around as it could be - and therein laid its beauty. Initially released as a 500 run on Italian label IRMA it was quickly picked up by one of UK Music’s arbiters of taste Rob Da Bank who signed it to his Sunday Best label with the rest as they say being history.

Forward-Wind to Spring 2010 – Max’s new album is ready – signed to Jalapeno and already causing a stir in the shape of the first single “Something Special” – a track which has been getting love from the old school and the new with supporters including Danny Tenaglia, Tom Middleton, Aeroplane, Crazy P and Mark Knight.

“My new album is a snapshot of my life for the last couple of years, a lot of my influences are in there – from the funk and jazz I grew up with, through drum and bass and house music - all tempered with the experience of being a band leader and knowing how to get the best out of the people I work with live”

Once Max had got together some ideas for the album the first people he turned to were the stalwarts of his live band Tasita D’Mour (who herself has a stellar history providing a multitude of hits for bands like Reel People and Copyright) and MC 2-ICE (Ryan to his mum) the MC from Max’s live shows.

Max also had his mind on a couple of guest vocalists who had impressed him over the previous year. Having already remixed one of their previous singles, Max knew all about NYC rappers QNC (Q Ball & Curt Cazal) who were duly contacted and drafted in. Next on the list was breakthrough toaster Tor - a UK rapper with one of the most distinctive voices around and the perfect person to drop the vocals on “Sound Boy”.

By now the album was really taking shape and with new label Jalapeno on board it was time to put the finishing touches to it. The vocal tracks are glorious dance records with touches of Quincy Jones and 80’s boogie all tied up in slick club production - all tight drums, irresistible bass lines and soaring strings.

Tasita cements her place as one of this decades finest club divas while MC 2-ICE injects some irreverent humour into proceedings on tracks like “Hey Mr. Superstar”. The NYC connection kick it like it’s a back in the day rollerskate jam on “Whatcha Doin” while Tor rips it up sound system style on “Sound Boy” a track that is destined to be the second single from the album.

Max finishes the album and counterpoints the club tracks with an ambient - percussion led comedown tune “Life’s A Beach” which could have come straight from the Bukem era of Drum and Bass.

solitude - xrs land (EP)
release date: 18/8/2010
- available to download
The floating island has moved. From broken accelerated beats to deep house. Solitude is XRS Land first EP on this new path. It is the result of a music production rerouting. The ambiences and melodies have the scent of fading away: elusive, airy, blue, and at the same time very evolving.
